Penumbral Lunar Eclipse (photo!)

Penumbral Lunar Eclipse (photo!)

An umbral eclipse is when the Moon slides into Earth’s central shadow. Penumbral is when it just nips the outer edge. Less noticeable than a partial eclipse (though they’re basically the same thing), I had to take very high speed exposures to really capture the gradual shading towards the southeast quarter of the Moon.. though it was visible to the naked eye, most people with no knowledge of the impending penumbral eclipse would never notice because it’s very slight. Amazing to catch in a photo on a clear night nonetheless.
