Central bulge of the Milky Way shaped like a peanut!

Scientists using photos taken 11 years apart along with a second group of scientists mapping red-giant star locations in the central area of our galaxy has led them to believe the galactic bulge looks like a peanut.

We can’t really see through all the dust that blocks our view of the elongated bar of our galaxy (we are a spiral galaxy with an elongated bar). However these two groups of scientists independantly came to the same “peanut-shaped” conclusion.

The photo here represents how they believe our galaxy would look edge-on.
